Frequently Asked Questions

The S50 Pro features a 4K wide-angle camera with a 63° field of view, enabling:

  • One-Tap Milky Way Arch: Automatically captures and stitches a complete Milky Way arch—no need to manually plan stitching points.
  • Milky Way Time-Lapse: Record the movement of the Milky Way and watch it drift across the night sky.
  • Star Trail Photography: Use long exposures to capture striking circular star trails.
  • 8K Stitching: Create ultra-high-resolution wide-angle panoramas that stay sharp even when enlarged.
  • Wide-Field Live Stacking: Enhance wide-field image quality in real time for cleaner results, faster.

The S50 Pro now supports Smart Enhancement and one-tap image processing, including Star Reduction, Star Removal, and Noise Reduction.

Star Reduction makes stars smaller, bringing deep-sky objects such as nebulae and galaxies into clearer focus while preserving a natural star field for a cleaner, more refined image.

Set Star Reduction to 100% to enable Star Removal, which removes stars from the image and highlights the textures, contours, and faint details of deep-sky objects.

Noise Reduction is automatically applied in Smart Enhancement.

Based on your target and shooting conditions, Seestar can quickly generate a shooting plan and carry it out automatically. Even if you are unsure what to shoot or how to set the parameters, smart recommendations help you get started with less manual setup and fewer repeated steps.

Telescope Network lets you remotely control the S50 Pro for imaging. You can also share or transfer device access, and batch-export photos after a session. Capture and access your images even when the device is not by your side—for a more flexible everyday experience.

The S50 Pro features a new two-section tripod with two adjustable leg angles. It supports a wider adjustment range, adapts flexibly to different terrain, and provides a more stable shooting experience.

The S50 Pro has 128 GB of internal storage, with approximately 100 GB available for use.

The S30 Pro is a portable all-rounder for a wide range of shooting scenarios. The S50 Pro is built for deep-sky imaging, with a larger aperture, a more capable tracking system, and richer image detail.

If portability and versatile everyday shooting are your priorities, the S30 Pro remains an excellent choice. If you want to capture fainter deep-sky objects and pursue greater imaging detail, the S50 Pro is the better upgrade.

Important Notes

Seestar series products are available in two regional versions: Mainland China and Overseas. The Mainland China version is intended for activation and use exclusively within Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Activation in other regions is not supported, and products activated outside these designated regions are not eligible for warranty or after-sales service.

  • Handle with care. Seestar smart telescope is a precision optical and electronic instrument. Avoid drops, impacts, or strong shocks, which may cause damage.
  • Image results may vary. Imaging performance depends on environmental conditions such as light pollution, atmospheric transparency, parameter settings, and stacking duration. Actual results are subject to real-world shooting conditions.

[1] At 1× magnification, both the telephoto and wide-angle cameras capture images at 4K (3840 × 2160) resolution. Resolution decreases at 2× and 4× magnification. The real-time live preview stream for both cameras is 1080P.

[2] Milky Way imaging requires dark-sky conditions. In areas with significant light pollution, Milky Way details may be limited or not visible. Results depend on on-site observing conditions.

[3] NFC functionality requires a compatible smartphone. Support varies by device and model—please refer to your phone's specifications.

To use NFC, ensure the telescope is powered on, the phone is unlocked, and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and GPS are enabled on your phone.

NFC sensitivity varies by device due to antenna placement. Locating your phone's NFC sensing area may improve detection.

If the Wi-Fi name is changed, NFC information must be updated manually for NFC to work properly.

[4] Due to system usage and storage allocation, available capacity may vary. System updates may affect storage allocation. Please refer to the actual available capacity on your device.

[5] Under ambient temperatures above 25°C, with Alt-Azimuth Mode and Telephoto Sensor Stargazing Mode enabled, the battery provides up to 9 hours of runtime. Data provided by the ZWO laboratory for reference only. Actual performance may vary.

[6] 60 s long exposures are supported only in Equatorial Mode and are not available in Alt-Azimuth Mode. Accurate polar alignment is required in Equatorial Mode to ensure precise tracking. Inaccurate alignment may reduce imaging performance.

[7] A solar filter must be installed when observing the Sun. Never allow the main camera to observe the Sun directly, as this may cause permanent damage to the device.

[8] The Smart Enhancement feature optimizes noise in actual astrophotographic images and enhances the stars captured in those images. It works like beautification applied to existing photos and does not generate AI-created images. This product is an intelligent astronomical telescope, and all images are authentic captures without AI-generated content.

[9] Wi-Fi transmission range is measured under ideal conditions. ZWO Laboratory testing shows a range of up to 10 meters in an open outdoor environment without interference. Actual range depends on real-world conditions.

[10] Sudden changes such as cloud cover, rain, or strong winds may prevent task completion. The device does not automatically power off in these situations. Please confirm weather conditions before scheduling an imaging plan.

[11] Telescope Network Remote Access is available for a limited-time free trial during the beta period.

The upgrade you didn't realise you needed.

For someone living in the cloud blessed UK, the attraction of a smart scope is to see things very far away very quickly. Having upgraded from the S50, the S50 Pro does all the little things that you didn't know you needed. EQ mode is awesome and always was but being able to drop the included tripod to a lower level for increased stability is such a great example of a small inclusion that makes a big difference. I cannot recommend the S50 Pro highly enough.

Next Level - A huge leap from the S50

I have been using the S50 for almost 3 years - brilliant piece of equipment. The S50 Pro however is a completely different beast. Previously I could never get above 20s frames in EQ mode, now I routinely get 60s frames - even in my bortle 8 location. Loving the stability, extra pixels, larger frame, bigger hard drive, longer battery life....

Great smart telescope

Absolutely love the Seestar S50 Pro. It’s incredibly easy to set up and use, and the results are fantastic for such a compact telescope.

The app makes everything really simple, from finding objects to tracking and imaging them. I was genuinely impressed with the quality of the images and how quickly you can get up and running without needing loads of complicated equipment.

It’s great for anyone interested in astronomy or astrophotography, whether you’re just starting out or already have experience. For me, it makes getting outside and observing the night sky so much more enjoyable.

Really pleased with it and would definitely recommend it.

Excellent updated scope with optical issues/sample variation

The S50 pro is an excellent smart scope with much more refined tracking capabilities and upgraded optics. The ease of set up even when EQ mounted means you can be imaging quickly to take advantage of those narrow windows of opportunity where the sky clears. It’s obvious that a traditional AP rig will outperform this scope but honestly if you’re not bothered to set up such a rig for the sake of a few hours integration time then the s50 pro wins out on those occasions, for convenience and speed. Even in bortle 8 conditions I am blown away by this little scopes capabilities. What’s more at 2.5kg this is a viable for me to travel with.

I would have loved the internal dual band filter to have been a lot more narrow in the range of 3-7nm but 3rd party filter holders are on the way for those who are interested to push the limits a bit.

There are some improvement opportunities in the application. For example sky conditions can change but not your running capture plan - once executed you need to stop a live plan to extend or shorten its duration or add additional targets. You don’t lose any images but it’s a new master and it’s just messy.

My particular scope appears misaligned and analysis indicates that there’s a variation of about 10-20% in star sharpness across the frame which is a shame. I have seen evidence of tilted sensors on cloudy nights forum as well. These are probably not representative of the s50 pro as a whole but it is frustrating to see product variation. I hope that customer service follow up on my open ticket.

I will update my review in due course. If I did not have issues this would be unquestionably a 5 star product for me.

S50pro upgrade from s50

A nice upgrade from my s50. I am very happy with what I have managed to image so far. The resolution upgrade is nice along with the much improved tracking. Ideally I would like to have seen a bump in the focal length or even better a swappable Barlow to allow planetary imaging. Also would like to have seen an improved solar filter and maybe a dust cap.

Night and day difference compared to the base S50

Don't let the budget comparisons mislead you—the S50 Pro is a completely different beast under the hood. The 2.8° Field of View alone is a game-changer; you get more than double the sky coverage in a single frame compared to the original S50's narrow crop, eliminating the constant need for mosaics. Paired with 4K resolution and the dual-camera system, the workflow and final image detail easily justify the higher tier. If you have the budget, the Pro is worth every penny.

Not just a minor upgrade!

Coming from an original s50p which was not the best of the bunch in terl of meeting the specs. There was no way for me to do more than 20s (not on every targets, low DEC targets was always limited to 10s) on EQ mode and a 0,0 polar alignment...
The S50pro unit I got however is something else. No dropped frame, even on 60s sub, round stars every time, kudos for the better tracking!
Now when I image for ~4.5h I have ~4h of images, very happy with that! However the shallow well of the sensor is saturating the stars at 60s exposure, that's the only drawback I have to report. Otherwise, the sensor is good, cleaner than the s50, and larger. Overall I feel that the s50 pro is not a simple upgrade, many aspects have been improved on for a much smoother experience.
